Templates such as the Cleaning Service Agreement are starting points. Contract rules, licensing and business registration requirements differ from state to state and sometimes city to city. Have an attorney licensed in your state review any agreement before you use it with clients.

Taxes, deductions and mileage

Tax rules and figures change, including the IRS standard mileage rate, which the IRS updates regularly. When a guide or tracker mentions a tax figure, check the current number on irs.gov and talk to a tax professional about your situation. Our expense and mileage trackers help you keep records; they don’t decide what you can deduct.

Insurance, licensing and safety

Insurance needs depend on your work, your state and your clients. Talk to a licensed insurance agent about coverage. For licensing and registration, check with your state and local government; the U.S. Small Business Administration has a starting point at sba.gov. For chemical and workplace safety, follow product labels and OSHA guidance at osha.gov.
